Explore the galleries of the Key West Art & Historical Society’s East Martello Museum – with its displays of historical artifacts from Bone Island’s rich and colorful history – and then dig even deeper with creative activities led by artist-teachers from The Studios of Key West. Each day tells a different story, and by making them their own they’ll be stories our intrepid Art Campers will never forget.
Campers can pack a lunch and have fun all day long. Fee includes museum admission, snacks and drinks, and all materials. Drop off and pick up are 15 minutes before and after camp at Fort East Martello, 3501 S. Roosevelt Road.
Each week’s session will feature a different topic with fun and exciting insights into the arts and history of our island. Choose one or sign up for an entire month of educational adventures!

Characters of Key West: Learn about the colorful characters who have made Key West what it is today. From pirates to sailors to Hemingway, numerous groups and ideologies have shaped our island over the years. Kids will learn about these diverse groups through creative activities.WEEK 2: JUNE 23-27 
Art and Nature: Art and nature overlap in beautiful ways in the Florida Keys. Many artists have made Key West their home and gone on to create amazing works of art based on the plants and palms, the seas and sky, the flowers and the creatures that are unique to our island home. Students will study the ecology of our island and create art made from, and about nature.
WEEK 3: JUNE 30-JULY 3 
Celebrate, celebrate!: Key West is known for its parties and love of life! Students will have the opportunity celebrate each and every day this week, learning about the history of Independence Day, playing games, and creating artwork related to the big day.
WEEK 4: JULY 7-11 
From Sea to Shining Sea: Kids who live in Key West grow up in a unique environment—we can cross our island and go from the Atlantic Ocean to the Gulf of Mexico in a matter of minutes! Students will learn more about the exceptional and interesting ocean world that lies just beyond the beach. Looking at tides and waves, sea creatures and boating, students will create an array of fun and shimmering artworks.
Peanut Butter Jam Band: Students will learn about the intersection of art and music—two very important elements in Key West’s culture—and will have the opportunity to make their own instruments. A visit from the Bahama Village Music Program caps off the musical week.
Trash and Treasures: Key West is known for its treasure-seeking sensibility, and has a long history of artists who were masters at turning trash into treasures. This week, students will work on repurposing items into useable and beautiful objects. Keeping our island clean and creating beautiful new works—all at once!
WEEK 7: JULY 28-AUGUST 1 Wearables and “Play”ables: Artwork can be fun and also functional. Students will learn about many items that can be created, rather than purchased. From tie-dyed t-shirts to bracelets to small toys, the possibilities are endless.
